Gardaí make significant number of arrests in Waterford as part of Operation Thor

Gardai in Waterford arrested 25 people on Tuesday as part of Operation Thor.

20 crime prevention and intelligence gathering checkpoints were carried out across the city, in addition to 54 garda patrols.

Two premises were searched under drug warrants, while Gardaí policing Waterford roads seized two cars for no tax and insurance.

Those arrested were detained for offences ranging from assault to theft.

72 summons were also served and 13 people charged as part of the operation.

Drug seizures increase

Gardaí have also reported a significant increase in drug seizures across County Waterford over the past 12 months.

Charges for personal possession and sale and supply increased by 30% from 2017, with  cannabis remaining the most commonly used drug.
