Dungarvan Aglow as Christmas lights turned on in County Waterford town

Crowds turned out in Dungarvan, County Waterford, on Sunday as the Christmas lights were officially turned on.

Dungarvan Aglow got underway as Santa arrived on Grattan Square, with young and old enjoying a Chrismtas market, live music, a fancy dress competition and a Facebook check-in competition and raffle.

The Dungarvan and West Waterford Chamber Christmas Voluntary Committee, supported by the Waterford Leader Partnership and Dungarvan Town Council, is inviting the public to experience Christmas in Dungarvan. The engaging combination of great value shopping, outstanding dining opportunities and festive atmosphere will ensure that all visitors enjoy a unique Christmas celebration.

Dungarvan is transformed each year, with dazzling illuminations in Walton Park and throughout the town casting a cheerful glow over the festivities. "We hope to welcome visitors from all over the country to Dungarvan this Christmas to enjoy our fantastic shops and local producers," a Dungarvan Aglow spokesperson said.

"This unique shopping experience is enhanced and complimented by the impressive quality of our cafes, bars, hotels and restaurants – an excellent way to relax and refuel while you’re with us.

"It’s our hope that the atmosphere and festivities will also bring our local community together this Christmas to support local businesses and through this strengthen our community. The events and activities on offer provide a great excuse to get together with neighbours and friends to ensure an unforgettable Christmas for everyone.

"Christmas in Dungarvan is the perfect way to end the year on a high note and to help guarantee a prosperous future for us all," the spokesperson added.
