100 jobs announced for Waterford manufacturing facility

100 new jobs are to be created at Bausch + Lomb's Waterford manufacturing facility, according to Minister and local TD John Halligan.

Halligan said, "excellent news on the local jobs front this morning with the announcement that 100 new jobs are to be created at Bausch + Lomb’s local contact lens manufacturing facility."

Parent company Bausch Health Companies Inc. has announced that it is to make a significant investment between now and 2021 to expand contact lens manufacturing capacities at its Bausch + Lomb sites in Waterford and Rochester, New York.

The company is adding multiple production lines at both the Waterford and New York sites to support the manufacture of its innovative daily disposable silicone hydrogel (SiHy daily) contact lenses.

"Bausch + Lomb has a long and proud history since it first opened in Waterford in 1980, and this significant investment -  following a previous $200 million investment between 2015 and 2017 which created 300 additional jobs - reaffirms its continued commitment to the county," Halligan commented.

"Bausch Health currently employs approximately 1,350 people in Waterford and today’s news is a great vote of confidence in the Waterford site, its local management and workforce and indeed what the region has to offer. I wish them well for the future."

In a statement, Bausch Health Companies said they have "been working closely with the public and private sectors in support of the capacity expansions in both Rochester and Waterford."

The investment in Ireland is supported by the Department of Jobs, Enterprise & Innovation through IDA Ireland, which is the agency responsible for the attraction and development of foreign direct investment in Ireland.

It is expected that these site expansions will lead to the creation of more than 200 jobs over the next four years.

Damain Finn, vice president, Manufacturing and Supply Chain, Bausch + Lomb, said: "Rochester and Waterford have been collaborative partners for many decades, and both locations are now synonymous with innovation in the development and manufacture of contact lenses and eye health products that improve the quality of life for our customers. This investment will support the development of an important new line of contact lenses and represents a new chapter in the success story of collaboration and co-operation between the two sites."
