WIT sprinter powers into European Championships semi-final
WIT Elite Sport Scholarship athlete Phil Healy has booked her place in the 200m semi-finals at the European Championships in Berlin.
Healy's time of 23.34 seconds was enough to see her finish third in the third heat in the event, coming home behind Belarussian Krystsina Tsimanouskaya, who won in 23.07.
Having booked an automatic final place in the semi-final, the Cork native will be hopeful of a favourable lane for her semi-final which takes place on Friday evening.
Healy received a place on Waterford Institute of Technology’s (WIT) highest sport scholarship, the “Elite Sport Scholarship” last September as she began her Masters in Enterprise Computer Software.
As a recipient of the Elite Sport Scholarship, Phil will receive financial aid towards her Masters, strength & conditioning training, free access to the new WIT Arena and a host of training.
Phil has began training with the WIT Athletics Club and continues to train under her coach, Shane McCormack, who is also the Development Officer with the WIT Athletics Club.
