Fire tackled at Waterford timber factory
Fire Services were needed shortly after 8pm on Sunday, July 29, as a fire broke out in the wood drying section of Smartply’s manufacturing facility at Belview Port, Waterford.
The blaze was quickly and safely extinguished with the assistance of local fire services.
Due to the localised nature of the fire, which occurred in the plant’s wood drying area, only a small section of the building’s wall cladding and roof suffered damage.
Electrical components and cabling were affected by water ingress, but this was due to the effective deployment of fire suppression systems. The fire did not spread to any other part of the plant, according to sources.
A clean-up operation of the impacted area took place on Sunday and full production was resumed. There was no injury to staff and no environmental damage or impact.
