There are five people on trolleys and the ward at University Hospital Waterford on Friday (July 20), according to the latest trolley and ward watch figures from the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation.
The nationwide figure is 307, an increase of 18% on the same day last year when there were 261 patients on trolleys.
The hospitals with the highest numbers on Friday are University Hospital Limerick (40), Tullamore's Midland Regional Hospital (29) and Kilkenny's St Luke’s Hospital (27).
Other figures for Friday include South Tipperary General Hospital (15) and Wexford General Hospital (7).
