Gardai attached to Waterford Roads Policing were operating a speed detection checkpoint in County Waterford on Sunday afternoon last.
Gardai detected a driver travelling at 108kph in a 50 kph zone.
The driver was also observed on the mobile phone and was subsequently arrested and brought before the courts on charges relating to the road traffic offences.
Gardai shared the arrest on social media which has received a lot of feedback from local people in Waterford.
One person said: "Thank you Gardai, more of this needed. Too many drivers flaunting the speed limits with zero consideration of potential consequences. Carnage on our roads needs to be stopped".
