HSE to give over €50 million to complete University Hospital Waterford's Surgical Hub
The HSE has announced it will give €52.6 million to complete the Surgical Hub being constructed at University Hospital Waterford.
Construction started on the hub, which has been designed for planned, non-emergency surgeries, in 2024.
It's expected that the hub will open by the end of the year, according to an article by the Waterford News and Star.

"It will be a state-of-the-art facility for the entire South East region, which will include four Operating Theatres & two Minor Procedure Rooms. This transformative development also includes a recovery/post anaesthetic unit and associated support services/staff facilities," Minister for Mental Health, Mary Butler, said.
Along with the almost €53 million for UHW, the HSE has allocated a further €2.1 million for other health-related projects in Waterford.
€1.3 million of that has been earmarked for the improvement of the laboratory at the hospital, with €140,000 allocated towards a new acute mental health centre.

The new centre hopes to hold 60 beds, with an additional 10 kept for those aged over 65.
The rest of the funding will be used for investing in St. Otteran’s Children's Therapy facility, Dungarvan Community Hospital, and a new Ambulance Base for Waterford.
Nationwide, the Health Service has committed to spending €1.34 billion this year.
"This is one of the largest allocations of funding for a health project in the entire country under the Health Capital Plan for 2026," Minister Butler said.
