There is great despair and heartbreak in Waterford following the passing of a well-known and adored woman.

Aileen McCarthy (née Egan) was from Mount Sion, Ferrybank in Waterford City and died on 24th January 2026, late of the Dominican Shop, Bridge Street, Waterford.

Sadly missed by her husband Ken, brothers Brian, John, Marty, Niall, Anthony, sisters Benny, Maeve, Trish, Anne, Claire, Nessa and Amy, extended family, relatives, neighbours and friends.

Heartfelt messages have been left on RIP.ie, from those who knew and fondly remembered Aileen, with one mourner writing,

"Sincere sympathy to the husband and family of Aileen. She was a lovely, friendly person who was always so helpful. May her gentle soul RIP".

Another message said, "Sincere and heartfelt condolences to Ken on the very sad news of the passing of your dear wife Aileen. Deepest sympathies also to Benny, Maeve, your sisters, brothers, extended families and the wider Egan & McCarthy family members on the devastating loss of your lovely sister, aunt and sister in law Aileen. It was always a pleasure to meet Aileen- her warm smile and gentle nature will forever be remembered. Resting now in the warm embrace of your beloved mam & dad, Martin & Ida. May Aileen rest in peace".

"I'm so shocked to hear of Aileen's passing. Use to pop into the church for cards off her what a lovely person. We use to have the craic always laughing we where. Fly high Aileen thinking of your husband ken and al your family, such a sad time," another person said.
