Big reasons why less than half of Waterford residents don't like their neighbours

A new survey reveals that less than half of Waterford homeowners like their neighbours.

Home insurance comparison site Chill surveyed 2,000 people and asked how they feel about the relationships on their doorstep and the problems they have experienced, offering insight into what neighbourly life really looks like in Ireland today.

Waterford residents are the happiest about their relationships with their neighbours, with almost 60% of respondents saying so. However, when disputes do arise, noise complaints are the most common, reported by nearly 20% of residents, with parking issues being the second most common source of tension.

Other regular occurrences that raise tension between Waterford households include toys ending up over fences (16.67%), nosiness and the use of intrusive security cameras (12.88%), and unwanted smells between properties (7.58%).

Most Waterford residents prefer to resolve neighbourly disputes directly, particularly over noise (65.38%) and parking problems (85.71%), while issues involving property or safety are more likely to be escalated to the council or the police.
