A "big mistake" regarding the new sustainable transport bridge has been highlighted to Waterford City and County Council.

Independent Councillor, Joe Kelly, raised the issue of removing a planned shuttle bus at the Council's December plenary meeting, according to WLR.

A shuttle bus connecting the new sustainable transport bridge to the City had been in the original plans, but it's no longer clear whether that service will be going ahead.

The sustainable transport bridge was designed to include public transport access.

Cllr Kelly believes that the shuttle bus would be "essential" for traffic management and improving access to the City, while also easing congestion.

The bus would be electric and would link the new train station on the North Quays to the City Centre.

Cllr Kelly highlighted how having the bus service would mean people don't have to walk across the bridge in poor weather.

He added that the decision to remove the shuttle bus is "short-sighted and damaging," and that t was one of the key selling points when plans for the bridge were announced.
