A GoFundMe has been set up for the family of the father of two boys who died after a plane crashed in Waterford last week.

Bircan Dokuzlar, who was originally from Turkey, was just 48-years-old when he tragically lost his life.

The fundraiser has been set up to help pay for his funeral, burial, international transportation, and the "many needs his family now face without him."

Bircan had been working in "tirelessly" in Germany to support his family.

The organiser of the GoFundMe, Kaan Demiroz, describes Bircan as being known for his "diligence, honesty, and dedication."

He has also been described as an "honourable person who tirelessly worked for his family despite all hardships."

The sudden loss of Bircan has understandably left his family in a state of deep grief.

"This period is extremely challenging for the family, both financially and emotionally," the GoFundMe says.

Messages have been left on the page, with one person writing "We in Waterford are heartbroken for your tragic loss. You are in our thoughts and prayers."

At the time of writing, $51,700 CAD had been raised for Bircan's family, exceeding the goal of $50,000 CAD originally set.

All funds collected will help to "lighten the Dokuzlar family’s burden" and "allow them to take a small breath of relief."
