Public lighting outages expected in Waterford this Winter due to 'poor' infrastructure

Waterford City and County Council have issued a warning to the public to say there will be lighting outages in Waterford this Winter. 

The Council’s Director of Roads, Gabriel Hynes, has been the one to deliver the news. 

"Public lighting is in a difficult, poor state," he said at the September sitting of the Dungarvan-Lismore District Council, according to the Waterford News and Star. 

“We will have public lights out during the winter, but we will endeavor to restore them in a timely manner, subject to available funding,” Gabriel added.

He says he will be commissioning a report on the state of the lighting infrastructure across Waterford and he hopes it will be completed by the end of the year.

“I understand it is going to be a major project to fix these lights between the physical work and the costs," Cllr. Kate O'Mahony, who raised the issue of lighting at the meeting, said. 

"Residents are becoming more concerned as we go into the winter," she added.

Childers Estate in Dungarvan has had ongoing issues with lighting with outages lasting from weeks to months.
