After 27 years of service, a well-known Waterford business has bid an emotional farewell to one of its most familiar faces.
House of Waterford Security Officer John Stephens officially retired last week, bringing to an end a career that began in 1998 with what was supposed to be a short stand-in role at the Waterford factory.
In a heartfelt tribute, colleagues said what started as a temporary position quickly became "a lifetime of dedication".
"After 27 years with us, we said farewell last week to our Security Officer, John Stephens, as he begins his well-earned retirement," the company wrote in a post on Facebook.
"What began in 1998 as a short stand-in role at the Waterford factory quickly became a lifetime of dedication.

“Over the years, John has worn many hats – from security to maintenance, and even tending to the flowers outside," the business added.
So trusted was his presence that staff joked the most common phrase in the building had become: "Let's ask John."
According to House of Waterford, it was a reflection of his "reliability, resourcefulness, and unfailing willingness to help".
While his absence will be felt, the company wished him well as he begins his next chapter.
"John will be greatly missed by all his friends at House of Waterford, but we wish him a long, happy and healthy retirement with his family. John, thank you for all of your hard work and dedication – here's to the next chapter!”
