The Mayor’s Parlour at City Hall hosted celebration of the success of Up Down Boy

The Mayor in Waterford City and County, Cllr. Seamus Ryan, welcomed a large audience to the Mayor’s Parlour at City Hall to celebrate the recent success of Up Down Boy at the Waterford News & Star Green Room Awards. 

The Mayoral Reception was held in honour of David Hennessy, Sean Upton and Brenda Giles for their roles in the acclaimed production.

The cast members were joined by family members, fellow cast members, and supporters from the local arts community.

The play received awards for Best Amateur Play, with David Hennessy named Best Director, Sean Upton was awarded Best Male Performance, while Brenda Giles took home the title of Best Female Performance.

Mayor Ryan praised the team’s achievement and their contribution to Waterford’s cultural landscape, saying, “These awards reflect the talent, passion and hard work that went into Up Down Boy.”  

Speaking of David’s award, the Mayor said, “Your vision and leadership as director shaped a production that was both moving and powerful. You continue to be a driving force in theatre in Waterford, and your contribution is widely respected and appreciated.”

Mayor Ryan added that the "performances brought depth and humanity to the stage. The recognition you have received is well deserved, and it is a reminder of the calibre of talent we are so fortunate to have here in our local arts scene.”
