Canadian friends Lynn and Kathy travelled all the way to Waterford to take part in the Viking marathon and to connect with Irish roots.
Both woman tell their stories in a video on Facebook as they celebrate taking part in the marathon to honour their late husbands.
"It would have been my 40th anniversary next week," Lynn said. "Also my hundredth half marathon...so I wanted to do something special."
"I lost my husband about 18 months ago and I still wanted to do something that we were going to do together...so that's what brought me here today."
Kathy said, "my husband also died a month after Lynn's and we were both at a grief hospice centre and we were introduced by the person in charge and they thought we'd get along because we both liked running."
"When I found out Lynn was going to Ireland....I'm Irish and I've never been to Ireland...so I came with her and here we go."
The Viking marathon 2025 marks the 13th consecutive marathon in Waterford which was held on Saturday June 21 and Sunday June 22 this year.
