RIP: 'She was just magic'- Sudden death of young Waterford mum in France shocks many

Sarah Giffney from Waterford City died suddenly in France

Tributes have poured in for Sarah Giffney from Waterford who died suddenly in France recently.

Sarah lived in Lille in France at the time of her sudden and unexpected passing and grew up in Hillside Grove in Waterford City.

Sarah’s life will be celebrated by her family and friends in France, followed by her funeral and burial in Waterford on June 17th.

The Waterford woman had friends all over the world who are in mourning over her sudden death, especially by her loving partner Romain Dewaele and her adored children Arnaud and Charlotte.

She will be greatly missed by her parents Andrew and Ann Giffney, brother Carl and his partner Eimear, Romain’s parents Thierry and Valerie Dewaele, his sister Clotilde and her husband Djaoid, Sarah’s godparents Deirdre Power and Kevin Ward and her godchild Ciara-Jane.

Heartfelt messages have been left on RIP.ie, from those who knew and fondly remembered Sarah, with one mourner writing,

"I’m so heartbroken and cannot imagine the pain for the Giffney and Dewaele families. Sarah was a childhood friend. She had the best imagination and was so creative and fun. Her house in hillside was like Disneyland to me. Always a new swing or a new book or a new idea for a game in the garden. She was always one step ahead, she introduced me to The Sims, Big Brother Harry Potter. She was just magic, she made my childhood magic and I’m so glad I knew her. Sending so much love to her family."

Another message said, "There are no words that can fully express how shocking and heartbreaking the loss of Sarah is. I was lucky enough to work with her one Summer in Dublin, where we bonded over our common Déise and French experiences. My deepest sympathies to the Giffney and Dewaele families - I wish you all the love and strength you need in this time of grief. Rest in peace Sarah".

"Sarah was an amazing, thoughtful friend. I am so lucky to have met her and to have had her as a friend. I will cherish my time with her in Dublin and Lille, and beyond. Thank you for the wonderful memories, Sarah. May you rest in peace. You will be so missed."
