Illegal drugs, alcohol and cigarettes were among the seized contraband

Over the past week, Revenue officers seized contraband with an estimated value of €574,865 in various operations in Dublin, the Midlands, Waterford and Wexford.

The detections were made as a result of risk profiling and intelligence led operations, and included the following:

  • 19.5kg of herbal cannabis, with an estimated value of over €389,300,
  • 13.4kg of edibles, with an estimated value of over €13,375,
  • 1.5kg of cannabis resin, with an estimated value of over €8,750,
  • Over 2,600 mixed tablets, with an estimated value of over €5,000,
  • various other illicit drugs, with an estimated value of €540,
  • Tobacco and alcohol products with an estimated value of €5,000, representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of almost €3,000, and
  • 664 counterfeit items, with an estimated value of almost €152,900.

The herbal cannabis and other illicit drugs were discovered, with the assistance of detector dogs Sam, Ciara and Enzo, whilst Revenue officers were examining parcels at premises in Dublin and the Midlands.

The parcels originated from Canada, USA, UK, Italy, France, Spain, Netherlands, the UK, France, Czech Republic, and were destined for addresses nationwide.

The counterfeit goods were seized as they were confirmed by the Rights Holder to have infringed on Intellectual Property Rights.

The tobacco and alcohol products were seized in various operations in the Midlands and Wexford. 142 weapons were also seized in the Midlands.

Investigations into all seizures are ongoing.
