Traffic delays expected in Waterford as work begins on new Clock Tower plaza

A new pedestrian bridge will join the North Quay to the south side to the river Suir

Traffic delays expected in Waterford today as work begins on new Clock Tower plaza

Motorists in Waterford can expect traffic delays today and over the coming weeks as preliminary works have began for the new plaza at the Clock Tower.

A new pedestrian bridge will also be built to join the North Quays to the south side of the river Suir.

Waterford People Before Profit say they have been long campaigning for a mile long linear park along the South Quays with trees, children's playground and even an "inner-city beach'.

In a post on Facebook Waterford PBP said,

"A NEW VISION FOR OUR SOUTH QUAY'S.

"There will be traffic delays on Waterford's South Quay's today and over the coming weeks around the Clock Tower and Meagher's Quay.

"The preliminary works relate to the development of a new Plaza at the Clock Tower (see attached graphic) and the site where the new pedestrian bridge from the North Quay's joins the south side of the river Suir.

"Waterford PBP have long campaigned for a mile long Linear Park along our South Quay's, incorporating the Clock Tower Plaza and WVW Plaza, running from Rice Bridge to Adelphi Quay.

"This vision would involve the removal of the unsightly steel barrier of cars that divide citizens from our broad majestic river Suir.

"In articles, posts and submissions etc. we've argued a Linear Park with trees, sculpture, outdoor gyms, riverside seating and performance areas, food kiosks, a summer inner-city beach with children's play areas etc. would enhance the quality of life of local people as well as visitors and create a wonderful window onto our ancient city from the north side of the river and the emerging North Quay's Development."
