Storm Babet continues to create significant disruption in Waterford with the N25 road to Cork from Youghal Bridge / Rincrew Roundabout currently blocked on Thursday morning.

Waterford City and County Council confirmed that diversions are in place with traffic diverted to Tallow – Fermoy.

This is the latest difficulty encountered due to the flooding in Waterford.

Many roads in West Waterford experienced significant flooding, with flooding reported on N25 and N72 on Wednesday evening.

Lismore, Tallow, Clashmore, Aglish, Ballyduff Upper and the adjoining hinterlands experienced heavy rainfall.

There were significant volumes of surface water run-off expected on Wednesday night, coinciding with high tide on the River Blackwater at around 8pm.

Waterford City and County Council ground crews and Waterford Fire Service attended multiple sites dealing with flooding issues.

Waterford City and County Council advised extreme caution, avoid all unnecessary journeys, avoid the areas if possible and if travelling please use an alternative route and allow extra time for your journey as driving conditions are expected to deteriorate throughout the course the day.

Members of the public can continue to contact Waterford City and County Council’s Customer Services Desks on 0818 10 20 20 during normal office hours after which calls will be transferred to the Council’s emergency services number.

The public was asked to please note the following emergency contact numbers below:

Uisce Éireann 1800 278 278
