Eoin Lowry, Head of Agriculture with Bank of Ireland presented the Bank of Ireland Best Artisan Cheese of the Year award at the National Dairy Awards to Knockanore Farmhouse Cheese, Waterford
THERE was some Waterford success at the inaugural National Dairy Awards which took place at the Midlands Park Hotel in Portlaoise.
Waterford company Knockanore Farmhouse Cheese was crowned Bank of Ireland Best Artisan Cheese.
Edward Lonergan rose to the top beating off competition from other finalists including Wicklow Farmhouse Cheese, Sabanero and Milleens Cheese.
The product that won over the judges was Knockanore Oakwood Smoked Mature Cheddar.
The farm has been producing raw milk cheddar cheese on the family farm since 1987 and over the years has developed their award winning recipe for raw milk mature cheddar cheese.
The successful nominees for this honour are the best of the best in the artisan cheese industry, having demonstrated exceptional craftsmanship, innovation and creativity in producing high-quality artisanal cheeses.
17 awards were presented on the night celebrating the high achievers that continue to develop and strengthen the Irish dairy industry.
The award was presented by Eoin Lowry, Head of Agriculture with Bank of Ireland.
The awards celebrate the primary producers, the artisan producers, sector services and the dairy processors as an industry collective. The premier black tie event is an industry wide, awards ceremony highlighting the best of the Irish dairy sector.
