Waterford Gardaí urge motorists to review vehicle security after thefts

Waterford Gardaí are advising motorists in the locality to review their vehicle security after a number of thefts.

Their tips for optimum security include always locking and securing your vehicle, parking in a well-lit area and where there is CCTV, and using a vehicle tracker to help in recovery if stolen.

Gardaí also advise installing immobilisers, alarms and steering locks, and not leaving valuables on show.

The warning comes following a slew of thefts of vehicles and items from vehicles.

The first incident involved the theft of a Hilti laser level and transformer from a white Ford Transit on Wellingston Street, Waterford between 7pm and 7.30am on March 2.

The second involved the theft of tools from a white Opel Vivaro van in the early hours of Friday March 3 between midnight and 5am.

A number of Makita items were taken including a circular saw, a jig saw, a combi drill, an sds drill, a multi tool and some batteries.

Anyone who may be offered any of these items for sale or anyone with any information is asked to contact Gardaí in Waterford.

Gardaí also received a report of two tyres slashed during the night of March 5 at Congress Villas, Dungarvan.

At 6am a male can been seen on CCTV beside the car before running away from the scene. If you saw anyone running from this location at this approximate time please contact Gardaí in Dungarvan.

If you have information on any of these incidents, contact any Garda station.
