Grants of over €300,000 awarded to Waterford community groups

Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys has announced €305,836 for 181 local projects across Waterford under the 2022 Community Support Fund.

The Community Support Fund was announced in November 2022 and is funded by the Department of Rural and Community Development. It provides €10 million to support community groups impacted by rising energy costs as well as with improvements to their facilities.

The 181 local projects in Waterford who received the funding include scout troops, sports teams, residents associations and community and heritage groups.

Announcing the successful projects for Co Waterford today, Ms Humphreys said: “I am delighted to announce almost €306,000 in funding for 181 local projects across County Waterford today as part of my Department’s Community Support Fund.”

“While these grants are small in nature, they can make a big difference by allowing local community organisations to carry out much needed works in their area. I would like to thank Waterford County Council and Local Community Development Committee for their assistance in administering this fund,” the minister said.

The Community Support Fund is a once off fund provided by the Department of Rural and Community Development and administered by Local Community Development Committees, with support from the Local Authority, in each area.

Waterford Fine Gael Senator John Cummins hailed Wednesday’s announcement as “further evidence of the government supporting the exceptional work being done on the ground by so many voluntary organisations which are the lifeblood of communities across the county.”

“I want to thank my colleague Minister Heather Humphreys for her continued commitment to community based projects across Waterford City and County. I know this funding will be put to really good use by all of the successful applicants,” he continued.
