Waterford hurlers suffer huge blow as key player steps away from panel

Waterford senior hurling manager Davy Fitzgerald will be without Austin Gleeson for the forthcoming inter-county season, the Irish Examiner has reported. 

The 2016 Hurler of the Year, who suffered a hamstring tear at the start of the year, was ruled out of league games during 2023 before he made a return for the championship.

The 2016 Hurler of the Year remarked that he was in need of a break but the door will be open if he wants to return to the Waterford setup.

The 28-year-old Mount Sion forward has been a key player for the Déise since his senior inter-county debut in 2014.
