The funding under the Walks Scheme will go to St. Declan's Way and Anne Valley Walk in Waterford

Funding of €20,000 has been announced for two walking trails in Waterford, it has been confirmed.

Minister Heather Humphries recently announced over €400,000 of funding from the Department of Rural and Community (DRCD) via the Walks Scheme, for the development of walking trails.

€10,000  has been allocated for St. Declan's Way to allow for a re-route in Cappoquin. This will take walkers off of a public road.

A further €10,000 has been allocated for the Anne Valley Walk which will allow resurfacing on a section of the trail. This work has been described as crucial to ensure that the walks keeps its multi-access status.

"These projects will strengthen Waterford's outdoor recreation offering. They will enhance the trails, which are a fantastic amenity for local communities. The projects are also supporting local economies in rural Waterford through the use of local contractors and attracting tourism to small towns and villages across Waterford," said Niamh McGuinness, Waterford Rural Recreation Officer

The Walks Scheme is also expanding in Co. Waterford, as there were 12 existing trails announced in the recent Walks Scheme Expansion:

-Dunmore East to Ballymacaw Costal Path

-Ardmore Cliff Walk

-Melleray Pilgrim Paths (5)

-Rathgormack Boolas Loop

-Nire Valley Walks (4)

"This is fantastic news for County Waterford," Ms McGuinness said.
