€534,438 in grants paid out to bring derelict and vacant Waterford homes back into use

Across the country, €112.5 million has been paid out since the grant was launched in July 2022
23 Vacant Property Refurbishment Grant applications have been approved in Waterford, which has brought more homes back into residential use, Fine Gael Minister John Cummins has revealed.
Mr Cummins has declared that this grant is supporting people across the county to bring vacant and derelict properties back into use as homes; in a bid to tackle the ongoing housing crisis.
Minister Cummins stated: “The Vacant Property Refurbishment grant was introduced to help bring derelict properties back to life as affordable homes. So far in Waterford, €534,438 in grants have been drawn down.
“We can see the number of grants being paid out continuing to rise significantly each quarter as works on properties are completed. It’s fantastic to see so many people in Waterford availing of this grant.
“Across the country, €112.5 million has been paid out since the grant was launched in July 2022, showing the importance of the scheme. The grant helps repurpose the buildings we already have, so we are boosting available accommodation whilst also rejuvenating our towns and urban centres," he concluded.
Minister Cummins confirmed that he and his party, Fine Gael, are committed to helping more people in Waterford own their own home, stating that increasing supply is key to achieving this. The Vacant Property Refurbishment Grant not only helps the people, but also brings buildings back into use and revitalises local communities.
