Waterford City and County Council said that the aim of the survey is to identify any changes to the cliff face

A drone survey is being carried out of the Copper Coast in County Waterford amid “significant” landslides.

The townlands included in the survey are Ballyvoyle, Tankardstown, Kilmurrin, Dunbrattin and Boatstrand.

Waterford City and County Council said that the aim of the survey is to monitor the coastline and identify any changes to the cliff face.

The data collected is subject to appropriate security arrangements and will only be used for the purpose of compiling the coastal study.

Waterford City and County Council added that it appreciates the public’s assistance in relation to the survey.

It comes after independent councillor Declan Clune raised concerns over landslides at Ballydowane Cove at the May meeting of the Comeragh Municipal District.

At that meeting, Roger Noonan, Senior Executive Engineer at Waterford City and County Council, said that the council will look to put up signs on the beach to warn of landslides.

Senior Engineer Maria Goff later told the meeting that the council regularly conducts surveys in areas where there is a road close to a cliff face.
