A total of five charities and community groups across Waterford are among the latest beneficiaries of ALDI’s Community Grants programme.
Villierstown Irish Girl Guides, Waterford Animal Welfare, ISPCA Waterford and Ballybeg Community Youth Project, will each receive a €500 ALDI gift card from their local Aldi store.
For 2024, to coincide with Aldi Ireland’s 25th anniversary, the retailer has also selected one organisation in each county to receive an additional support of €2,000 worth of ALDI gift cards.
In County Waterford, Treo Portlairge, which works with young adults aged 16+, has been chosen to receive this award.

Commenting following the announcement of the award recipients, Rachel Nugent, National Sustainability Manager at ALDI Ireland said: “We are delighted to continue to support local charities and community groups across the country through the ALDI Community Grants programme and to see the impact of our donation in the local communities of County Waterford.
“The Community Grants programme is one example of how ALDI is committed to investing and partnering with local communities and charities across Ireland and we look forward to continuing this engagement for years to come.
ALDI’s Community Grants programme helps fund local charities and community organisations that contribute vital work and services in their local communities. Each local organisation supported is chosen by ALDI employees, enabling them to help the local good causes they are passionate about.
By the end of 2024, the programme will have provided €758,000 in donations to more than 1,000 local charity branches and community groups across Ireland since its inception in 2016.
Receiving charities and community organisations range from rescue teams to animal sanctuaries, cancer support to mental health support, or any charitable organisation that resonates with ALDI colleagues.
Operating five stores in County Waterford, ALDI is deeply involved in the local community. To date, the stores have donated over 81,000 meals to local charities through ALDI’s partnership with FoodCloud, avoiding a total of 109,000kgs of CO2e. ALDI partners with six innovative Waterford food and drink producers, spending €27 million with them in 2023.
