Gardaí have warned the public that fake €50 notes are in circulation around Waterford city.

People are attempting to exchange the €50 notes for legitimate money.

Locals and businesses are also being targeted by tax refund scams, receiving phone calls telling them that they are due a tax refund.

Fraudsters have already conned a small business and two people in County Tipperary out of thousands of euros through email and phone scams.

Gardaí have told the public not to give out financial information over the phone.
