Tommy Tiernan left speechless by 'one of most shocking things' said on his RTE show
Tommy Tiernan was left speechless on his own chat show after "one of the most shocking things" he's ever heard.
The shocking moment came during the comedian's chat with Welsh singer Charlotte Church, who rose to fame as a child, on his RTE show.
She spoke about her career from as young as 12 and as a young teenager when she says there was “hardcore commercialisation” and she was “properly commodified."
Tiernan probed, "what was being sold," to which she replied, "innocence was being sold.” Upon hearing this, Tommy sighed and put his head back in disbelief.
He then said: “That’s one of the most shocking things. Innocence was being sold. Because it was, wasn’t it? It was this beautiful young girl with this voice and presexual, whatever that phrase is, wow.”

Charlotte responded by elaborating on that period of her life when the British tabloid press obsessively covered her life, career and that of her family, suggesting her mother was portrayed as a "Welsh dragon" during a protracted legal battle with Charlotte's manager.
Of the British tabloids, she said: "For some reason, it was in their interest to present me as this air-headed Welsh...party girl and really thick. It's really interesting actually, through reflecting on it more recently, so many of the slurs that came from the British press were around my Welshness."
"My mother particularly has and continues to be so horrendously affected by what she went through at the hands of the press," she said, with Tommy adding, "they're a force that's bigger than the individual, and if they turn on you, you will suffer."
Charlotte went on to sing ‘My Lagan Love’ on the show, and that performance, along with her open and honest interview left viewers in awe.
"She's class to be fair," one wrote, adding, "she's a Welsh girl at heart. The Welsh and Irish have a special bond."
Another viewer said: "I love that she's taken the time to learn this and bring some Irish lore to the interview."
A third added: "Beautiful and so well spoken great interview well done to Tommy letting her speak."
