Waterford Institute of Technology’s (WIT) first online music course, which ran for the first time in 2018, is open again for applications.

WIT’s 12-week Western Art Music: Baroque to Mid-20th Century course is ideal for people passionate about music as well as music teachers seeking professional development opportunities and music students who require the Western Art Music module for Teaching Council registration.

"This is a really enjoyable short course which is very accessible to learners due to the online delivery. It travels through the eras focusing on the most significant composers and their music,” says programme leader for the BA (Hons) Music at WIT Dr Hazel Farrell.

Students learn from the comfort of their own home and at their own pace with this fully online course. “Students will explore the most significant musical developments through the eras and study the seminal works of the composers they know and love,” says Dr Farrell.

The Western Art Music: Baroque to Mid-20th Century module explores the main developments in Western Art Music beginning with the Baroque era and progressing to the mid-20th century, in the context of political and social change. The most significant composers and seminal works of each era will be examined in this musical journey through the ages, with the online delivery ensuring a flexible and accessible learning experience.

The online delivery features a combination of Adobe Connect sessions, where everyone is online at the same time in a virtual classroom environment, and self-directed learning. New lecture materials and other resources will be released each week.

Registration closes on January 20 and the course begins the following week. More information is available on WIT.
