Cllr Niamh O'Donovan and the static speed camera on the N25
Waterford people are being “hit hard” by a speed camera located in County Kilkenny, a council meeting has heard.
Fine Gael councillor Niamh O’Donovan spoke on the static speed camera on the N25 near Glenmore at the March plenary meeting of Waterford City and County Council.
Cllr O’Donovan said: “I think a lot of our citizens living in Waterford are getting hit hard by the lack of signage and the lack of awareness.
“They’re on a big wide open road, going from 100km/h straight into 80km/h and that camera there is catching all our people coming back to Waterford from Wexford.
“I just think there’s a real injustice there with the lack of signage,” she concluded.

In response to Cllr O’Donovan, Director of Services Gabriel Hynes said he had no sympathy for people who are caught speeding.
Mr Hynes stated: “Just in relation to the speed camera on the N25, I think speed limits are there for a reason.
“Drivers need to be conscious of the speed limit and drive within that speed limit. I don’t have any comfort to give to people who are caught for speeding because it is a safety issue.”
He concluded by reiterating that it is the driver’s responsibility to be aware of the speed limit and drive within it.
