Waterford All Time Greats: Profile #11 John Mullane
Legendary De La Salle hurler John Mullane won four Munster Senior Hurling Championships, one National Hurling League title and five All Stars with Waterford.
Mullane made his senior debut for Waterford in 2001, and the following year he claimed his first Munster winners medal as the Déise defeated Tipperary to claim the provincial crown for the first time in 39 years.
In an interview with RTÉ after conquering Munster again in 2004, Mullane said: "The people of Waterford are my life. I love me county."
Despite Waterford being beaten in the 2011 and 2012 Munster finals to Tipperary, Mullane received his fourth and fifth All Star awards. He announced his retirement for inter county hurling in January 2013.
“The sense of genuine pride I got from wearing the Waterford jersey and representing the county I love will live with me forever.
“Throughout those 13 years I was fortunate enough to play with some great players. I would like to thank all the players sincerely for their support and more importantly their friendship.
“My relationship with the Waterford supporters has always been a very special one and I sincerely thank them for their support in both good and bad times,” Mullane said.
