Motorists in Waterford are being warned of possible delays this week as overnight roadworks get underway on the city's busy South Quays.

Waterford City and County Council has confirmed that lane closures will be in place on Meagher's Quay, Coal Quay and Custom House Quay from tonight, Monday, August 18, until Wednesday, August 20.

The works will run nightly from 8pm to 6am, with a stop-go traffic management system in operation throughout.

In a notice, Waterford City and County Council said: "Waterford City and County Council wish to advise that nighttime roadworks will take place on Meagher's Quay, Coal Quay and Custom House Quay, Waterford from Monday 18th August to Wed 20th August 2025.

"A Stop - Go traffic management system will be in operation and the public is advised to adhere to all local traffic management and follow directional signage for the duration of the works."

The council said the overnight schedule is intended to minimise disruption to residents, businesses and commuters while also prioritising safety for both road users and on-site personnel. Emergency access will remain in place for the duration of the works.

The notice added: "The works shall commence at 8pm and finish at 6am over the three nights. Waterford City and County Council apologise for any inconvenience caused and seek the understanding and co-operation of the public during the course of these works."
