Property owners are urged to fill in Local Property Tax form by Friday or face steep penalties

Homeowners across Ireland could be faced with fines of up to a whopping €3,000 if they do not fill out  and return the crucial Local Property Tax (LPT) form by this coming Friday, November 7, 2025.

If you own a residential property and haven't yet submitted your LPT return, now is the time to do it.

What you must do

  • Determine the value of your property as at November 1, 2025 - this is the liability date
  • Submit your LPT Return online, giving your property valuation and selecting a payment method for the 2026 charge
  • Choose a payment option i.e. pay in full, pay monthly by direct debit, or have the amount deducted at source from salary/pension

Failing to submit the return and make payment arrangements by the deadline exposes you to heavy fines and enforcement measured.

Penalties for not returning the form include:

  • Fines up to €3,000
  • Payroll or pension reductions to recover the amount owed
  • Interest, surcharge, and withholding of tax clearance certificates

Local authorities depend on LPT to fund services such as road maintenance, waste collection, and community amenities. Missing the deadline could mean disruption and extra costs down the line, so it's of utmost importance especially if you have recently moved, changed ownership, or the property value has changed significantly.

How to return your LPT form

  • Log into the Revenue LPT portal (via MyAccount or ROS) and check your property ID and PIN
  • Use the Revenue valuation tool for guidance, but remember it's only indicative - consider your property's condition, size, and other features.
  • If you've recently built, renovated, or changed your home, you may need to check whether your liability has changed
  • If you cannot pay in full, choose the phased payment option rather than ignoring the requirement
