Dublin Airport has confirmed that Terminal 2 has received 'the all-clear' after a security threat on Saturday morning prompted an evacuation of all passengers

Dublin Airport has confirmed that Terminal 2 has reopened after passengers were forced to evacuate on Saturday morning, 20 September due to a security alert.

The alert was raised on Saturday morning at 11.30am, prompting an evacuation of all passengers from the terminal. An Garda Síochána has now said in a statement that they responded to the incident after reports of "an item of airline luggage of concern at Dublin Airport".

Gardaí added that they requested the assistance of the Defence Forces' Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Team in response to the incident.

According to the statement from gardaí: "Following a preliminary examination on scene, the piece of luggage was contained and deemed safe for removal from T2 to an alternate location which would not impact on airport operations. The piece of luggage was subject to further examination by the Army EOD team and has been declared safe."

In an update from Dublin Airport this afternoon, they have confirmed that the terminal has "received the all-clear" and passengers will soon be able to re-enter the terminal, with flights expected to resume shortly.

They added that "some temporary disruption may continue during the remainder of the day", and have urged passengers to check with their airline for updates.

Gardaí have also advised that traffic remains heavy on routes approaching the airport.

There have been further disruptions for people travelling at Dublin Airport and Cork Airport on Saturday following a major software issue which has been impacting airports across Europe.

The airport operator DAA said that this is a separate issue from the security threat which prompted the evacuation earlier today and that, thankfully, it has had only a "minor impact" on operations at Dublin and Cork Airport.
