Josephine Larkin had recently been diagnosed with stage 4 throat and lung cancer and died suddenly as a result of her illness

A devastated daughter has set up a fundraiser in the hope of bringing back her mother’s ashes to Ireland after her sudden death in the US.

Maureen Larkin from Loughrea, Co Galway, is hoping that enough funds can be raised for her to attend her mother, Josephine’s, funeral service in Florida as well as being able to cover the costs of flying back with her mam’s ashes.

Josephine had recently been diagnosed with stage 4 throat and lung cancer and died suddenly as a result of her illness.

She had lived in America for almost 40 years and had not been home to Ireland in that time with Maureen hopeful that she will be able to fly home to spread Josephine’s ashes in Loughrea on October 4.

So far, nearly €350 has been raised with a target of €1,600 set which would also help cover the cost of a memorial in Ireland on her return.

The GoFundMe reads:

“Hi my name is Maureen Larkin. I live in Loughrea. My mother is from Galway originally but has lived in the states for nearly 40 years.

“I have travelled back and forth throughout the years to see her. My mum was diagnosed with stage 4 throat and lung cancer. Sadly and suddenly, she passed away in her home in Orlando, Florida.

“I’m absolutely devastated that I couldn’t be there for her in her final few moments as I live so far away and flights are so expensive.

“I can’t afford it by myself, if anyone can donate anything please help me, please. To get one chance to go over there to hold her for one more time in my arms even though she is gone, just to say my final goodbye. I would really appreciate it, please and thank you.”
